The Writing Process
Authentic Food Quest Peru is our second book. We published our first book Authentic Food Quest Argentina in 2016. One would think the writing process gets easier, but it actually doesn’t.
“Writing a book is an exhausting struggle, like a long bout with some painful illness.”
Even though we gained experience with our first book, writing Authentic Food Quest Peru was a much more arduous process.
To be clear, the challenges had nothing to do with the content, but rather with the context. The biggest challenge was writing a book about Peru while traveling in a completely different environment.
At the time of writing, we were exploring the local flavors of Southeast Asia. Fighting the inner battle between being fully present in one place and writing about another, was a daily struggle.
For this project, Rosemary took on the writing, while Claire provided guidance and support. On the more practical aspects of bringing the book to life, Claire took the lead.
In short, the Authentic Food Quest Peru took about 10 months to write on and off.
Writing began In Chiang Mai, Thailand, where I would wake up at 5:00am. I would write for two to three solid hours before starting the day.
Bits and pieces of the book were written in Malaysia, Bangkok and the vast majority in Florida, while house sitting.
Once the writing was done, it took about four months to go through the editing and graphic design process.
Sharing Authentic Food Quest Peru – Feeling of Accomplishment
Writing is a daily practice. It involves showing up and putting in the work in every day. It’s about sitting down and making no visible progress…that only appears after months.
With daily discipline and deep love and commitment for highlighting the unique local Peruvian flavors, we made through the “long bout of illness.”
And, in the end is nothing more exhilarating than publishing your own book.
As we launch Authentic Food Quest Peru today, we could not be more proud. We are excited to share it with the world and help make every trip to Peru a delicious adventure.
We believe visitors to Peru, or those simply interested in discovering Peruvian cuisine, will enjoy learning more about the food and the stories behind the dishes.
We don’t claim to be authorities on Peruvian cuisine.
What we’re most excited about is the ability to help visitors to Peru navigate the local food scene better.
To open up to new tastes, new flavors.
And connect with locals over delicious and unique food experiences.
We are proud to add Authentic Food Quest Peru to our growing series of books. We believe this book will inform and intrigue travelers about the variety of local specialties available in Peru. Visitors to Peru will experience a new and unique way of traveling…through authentic food!
While Claire and I are the primary authors, it really did take “a village” to bring this book to life. We are forever grateful to our Peruvian friends in the U.S, and those that we met in Peru for introducing us to the wonders of Peruvian gastronomy.
Our editors and graphic designer played a key role in shaping this book. We are also grateful for our beta-readers who provided support and guidance along this writing journey.
We invite you to hold this book in your hands and take a culinary journey through Peru. Go there physically if you can. Or better yet, take bites out of the book and try new flavors at a Peruvian restaurant in your area.
Don’t forget to leave a review on Amazon, it makes a bigger difference than you can imagine.
