Mevi Bodega Boutique
Mevi Bodega Boutique specializes in producing high-quality wines made with local grapes.
We had the opportunity to meet Oscar Vignart, the “Vi” in Mevi in Buenos Aires. Together with his business partner, the built a new winery in 2009 and opened it up for tours in 2011.
The majority of Mevi grapes are dedicated to Malbec. Though they also have Syrah, Cabernet-Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Torrontés grape varietals.
Bodega Mevi has two terraces for wine tastings surrounded by vineyards and mountains. All winery tours and tastings are guided by a wine expert.
And a selection of cheeses, homemade bread, and empanadas are available to pair with your wine.

Bodega Cecchin – Organic Wines
Visiting Bodega Cecchin was one of our highlights in Mendoza. This winery was highly recommended by locals in Buenos Aires and we were eager to find out more.
Started as a family tradition in 1959, Bodega Cecchin is known for premium organic and natural wines.
At the time of our visit, this was one of the first wineries that was organic in Maipu valley and one of about 10 organic wineries in all of Mendoza.
No chemicals are used in the grape growing or fermentation process. And, the vineyard follows biodynamic agricultural practices.
Guided visits are offered to the vineyards and wine production area. You can choose from three different tastings. Two different organic tastings and one organic wine premium tasting.
This was one of our favorite tastings in Mendoza and one not to miss in Maipu Valley.

Tempus Alba – Great Spot For Lunch
The Biondolillo family settled in Mendoza City as Italian immigrants, more than 100 years ago.
Since planting the first vines, Tempus Alba winery, now managed by the 5th generation, is one of the most well-known in the region.
Located within walking distance to Mevi, we easily made our way to Tempus Alba to learn about their wines.
Several tasting options are available at Tempus Alba. You can choose a free self-guided tour or a private guided tour with a wine expert.
There is also the option to enjoy the wines at their wine bar or pair their wines with a meal at their onsite restaurant.
We opted for lunch and wine tasting on the rooftop deck with amazing views of the Andes.
Of the six wines we tried, we both enjoyed the Malbec wines, Cabernet, Merlot, and Tempranillo.
You’ll not go wrong with the wines and a paired tasting with lunch is highly recommend.

Lujan De Cujo Mendoza Wine Region
Lujan de Cuyo is known as Malbec land and was the first region to get a “designation of origin” (AOC) for Malbec wines in 1993.
The viticultural region is quite large and stretches from the Mendoza River northern banks to the Andes mountains’ edges.
Luján de Cujo’s geography, altitude, and pure water from the Andes provide ideal grape-growing conditions.
Some big Argentinian wine names like Bodega Septima, Cheval des Andes, and Catena Zapata come from here.
Preserving the tradition, Luján de Cuyo has some of the oldest vineyards in Argentina. The Malbec wines are bold, intensely flavored, and represent an invaluable heritage.

Catena Zapata is an award-winning, family-run winery with a tradition dating back to 1902.
This is the oldest family winery in Argentina that is still family-owned and managed.
The Bodega is especially well known for its full-bodied Malbec wines and the extremely high altitude terroir.
The family’s Adrianna Vineyard, named after the youngest daughter, sits almost 5,000 feet in elevation.
It has been called the “Grand Cru of South America.”
Catena Zapata is one of the most important wineries in Argentina. And, the one that put Argentine wines on the map.
Different tours and wine tastings are available at Catena Zapata. You can choose a “Wine & Music” tour, “Family is Everything,” or a “Blending wines” tour.

Bodega Ojo de Agua
Established in 1868, Bodega Ojo de Agua spreads over 2000 hectares at Sierra de la Vigilancia.
The name translated as “eye of the water,” inspired by the spring mountain water flowing through the farm.
Starting as a winery, Ojo de Agua expanded its activity to cattle raising for beef production.
Today it is one of the best producers of organic wines and natural products.
In addition to wines and beef, it also specializes in Patagonia walnuts.
One of the oldest wineries, the Bodega is equipped with the latest technologies for its three lines of wines: Premium, High-End, and Ultra Premium wine.
Visits are open to learning about their premium wine production process. Bodega Ojo de Agua organizes guided tours of the winery and vineyards, where you can enjoy wine tastings all year.

In business since 2005, Bodega Budeguer is a family-owned winery.

The modern winery has an impressive underground cellar. And it also houses an art gallery for national artists to expose their work.

Small bites such as nuts, cheeses, and savory delights accompany the wine tasting.
One of the signature wines to try is the Natural Malbec wine. This limited wine from 2022 shows the purity of the terroir.

Anaia Winery
Anaia Winery, with 72 hectares of vineyards, has one of the largest grape varieties in the Mendoza wine region.

Uco Valley Mendoza Wine Region
Uco Valley is one of the world’s highest wine-growing regions, with over 80,000 hectares planted between 3,000 ft and 3,900 ft.
Wines from grapes grown at this altitude are said to be among the best that the Mendoza wine region offers.
Some say Valle de Uco is Argentina’s equivalent to California’s Napa Valley.

- The “siesta” culture – In Mendoza, many stores are closed between 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm. The siesta culture is a part of the local community. Plan accordingly to enjoy your stay in the Mendoza region.
- Getting to the wineries. Choose how you want to experience the Mendoza wine region. We recommend taking a tour for the ease and convenience of not driving and drinking.
- Wineries require advance reservations – Most wineries and restaurants in the Mendoza province require advanced notice. You will not be able to visit most wineries without reservations.
- Plan your winery visits by valley or region- Mendoza is a large wine producing area with many wineries to visit. Many wineries are set against the Andes mountains offering a breathtaking experience. Give yourself the time to enjoy both the winery and the views of the Andes mountain range. Both deserve to be appreciated fully.
- Cash is King – Not all wineries take credit cards, be prepared with cash on hand.
- Bodega visits – Please note that most Bodegas are closed on Sundays and Mondays. Prepare and plan your visits accordingly.
- Space out your Winery Visits – In general, tastings and wine pairings are generous. The passionate winemakers will eagerly share their full-bodied wines. Go easy and plan for no more than 3 winery visits per day

Rosemary is an avid runner when she’s not eating and exploring new destinations. She has run ten marathons and counting.

Excellent experience, the two first wineries are not of my favorites, but the third is an amazing winerie into Maipú area, if you come to Mendoza again don’t miss Lujan de Cuyo a region with important wineries and definitely Uco Valley is an area with amazing wineries and the vineyards grown at the foothills of the Andes.

Thanks for your comments. We actually enjoyed getting off the beaten path and seeing a boutique winery – Mevi as well as understanding organic wines at Cecchin. We did actually make it to Uco Valley and will be posting about it shortly. Lots to visit and experience in Mendoza, but not enough time:).
