We had the idea almost 1.5 years ago of writing a book about the authentic foods we would discover on our quest. This idea came to us in the early phases when we were dreaming about the possibilities with authentic food quest.

The Book Writing Process
As first-time authors, the book writing process was very daunting. Brainstorming and creating the outline took the most time. We spent a lot of time at the Barnes & Nobles looking at examples of the kind of book we wanted to write. We searched online and on Amazon looking for inspiration.
Our big decision was whether the book should be ‘highly personal’, or whether it should be a guide to help culinary or foodie travelers create their own food adventures.
After debating the two approaches, we finally settled on taking a food guide approach. Since we already had a website where we were more personal, we thought creating a food guide would empower travelers with the information they need to savor their way through Argentina.
Using Lonely Planet as a reference guide, we structured the book into four main sections;
- Terroir: provides a “lay of the land” of what to expect on your culinary trip to Argentina
- Savor This: this section dives deep into the authentic specialties you should not miss on your trip to Argentina
- Destinations: categorized into four main regions of Argentina, this section includes the addresses and contact information of restaurants, markets, local stores and unique culinary experiences.
- Resources: contained in this section are additional tips to make your trip to Argentina a success.
Once we defined the outline, the actual writing took about three months.
Writing is Hard Work
“Showing up” to write every day is not easy. Even though we had an outline, sitting down to write each day was a struggle. We created a timeline and took the lead in writing different sections of the book. In addition, we held each other accountable. Once a week, we would have “check in” meetings and we made writing our top priority.
On a day to day basis, we each had to find inspiration to write. On some days the writing would come easy and everything would “flow.” On other days, the writing process was like pulling teeth.
What kept us going was the accountability to each other and the goal of just getting to the ‘first draft.’
From Manuscript to Book
If writing was difficult, the publishing process was confusing. After going through the arduous editing process, we turned our attention to bringing the book to life.
The publishing process was like learning a new language. Actually, two new languages. Getting the book published on Amazon Kindle is one language. Bringing the book to life as a paperback with IngramSpark was a totally different process.
As first-time publishers, we had to quickly learn the requirements and abide the rules set by each platform. We worked with an amazing book designer and desktop publisher who also helped us navigate the process.
As challenging as the process was, we are thrilled with the turnout of both the Amazon Kindle version and the paperback book.
